G1 Transformers Showcase – Decepticons Soundwave, Laserbeak & Ravage

One of the most iconic Decepticons of all time, Soundwave, has always been a centerpiece in any G1 Transformers collection. His cool, calculated demeanor and unique ability to deploy cassette minions like Laserbeak and Ravage made him stand apart from the typical Decepticon warrior.
As a builder and collector, I’ve always wanted to capture Soundwave in LEGO BrickHeadz form—complete with his loyal cassettes. This showcase brings together the Decepticon communications officer and his two most famous deployable companions.
Soundwave – The Decepticon’s Communications Officer
Soundwave’s BrickHeadz design posed a fun challenge: staying faithful to his blocky G1 silhouette while still keeping the proportions playful.
- Helmet & Visor – His unmistakable red visor sits boldly across his face, framed by the deep blue helmet with squared-off “ears†that match his G1 animation model. The sharp lines here immediately signal “Soundwave.â€
- Chest Tape Deck – No Soundwave would be complete without his iconic cassette door. I went for a yellow-framed blue panel to mirror his chest compartment, giving him that defining centerpiece.
- Arms & Minion Integration – One of my favorite touches is having him hold a mini Laserbeak cassette. It’s a nod to his deploy function, and while simplified, it drives home what makes Soundwave unique.
- Proportions – Chunky legs and arms round out the figure, giving him a solid, weighty look, just like his onscreen persona.
As a display piece, he commands presence on the shelf—blocky, bold, and unmistakably Soundwave.

Laserbeak – The Loyal Spy
Perched on Soundwave’s arm (or standing proudly beside him), Laserbeak is instantly recognizable even in BrickHeadz scale.
- Head & Beak – I designed his head using layered black slopes, giving him a sharp beak profile that keeps his predator look intact.
- Red Eye Visor – A simple but effective strip of red bricks sells the iconic visor look. It’s a tiny detail, but it makes him pop against all that black.
- Compact Size – Laserbeak had to feel smaller and sleeker than Ravage while still holding his own as a display companion. His compactness really helps emphasize Soundwave’s role as the carrier and commander.
He’s a small but essential inclusion, adding character and storytelling to the build.
Ravage – The Stealth Predator
Ravage has always been a fan-favorite cassette, and capturing his sleek, feline form in BrickHeadz proportions was an enjoyable challenge.
- Head & Jawline – The squared muzzle with protruding slopes makes him instantly recognizable as a robotic panther.
- Red Eyes – Just like Laserbeak, his glowing red eyes stand out against his black build, staying faithful to his cartoon model.
- Legs & Tail – Using curved and sloped pieces, I built Ravage with short but strong legs and added a rocket-like tail detail. It gives him just the right silhouette without overcomplicating the design.
- Overall Presence – He’s squat and chunky in BrickHeadz form, but the details—ears, visor, and posture—make him unmistakably Ravage.
As a companion piece, Ravage balances the trio by giving Soundwave his most iconic ground-based minion.

Collector’s Perspective
What makes this set special for me is how well the characters complement each other. Soundwave without his cassettes feels incomplete, so having both Laserbeak and Ravage alongside him gives this display real depth. Each one has its own personality, and together they tell the story of Soundwave’s role in the Decepticon ranks.
From a builder’s point of view, this project pushed me to think about how to represent iconic silhouettes with minimal parts, while still making each figure immediately recognizable to G1 fans. The end result is a trio that blends nostalgia with LEGO’s playful aesthetic.
On the shelf, they don’t just sit there—they look like a team.
Final Thoughts
Soundwave has always been one of the most collectible G1 characters, and in LEGO BrickHeadz form, he’s no different. With his visor, cassette chest, and loyal minions, this build is both a love letter to Transformers G1 and a satisfying addition to any LEGO/Transformers crossover collection.
This showcase is a reminder of why I build: to bring the characters I love into new formats, and to see them come alive in ways that spark both nostalgia and creativity.
