G1 Transformers Spotlight – Autobots Ironhide & Rachet

After finishing my custom BrickHeadz Megatron, I knew I couldn’t stop there. One Decepticon down meant I needed to balance the shelves with some Autobots—and who better than two of the most dependable and recognizable members of the team: Ironhide and Ratchet.
These two are more than just background characters; they’re the beating heart of the Autobots. Ironhide, the tough-as-nails veteran warrior, and Ratchet, the ever-reliable medic, are both essential to Optimus Prime’s crew. I wanted to celebrate that bond and their contrasting personalities by bringing them into BrickHeadz form, side by side.

Why Ironhide and Ratchet?
Growing up with Transformers, Ironhide and Ratchet always stuck with me because they weren’t flashy heroes—they were loyal, practical, and carried the Autobots through some of their hardest battles.
- Ironhide is Optimus Prime’s right-hand bot, a soldier who never backs down, even when the odds are stacked against him.
- Ratchet is the medic, constantly patching everyone back together and reminding us that even warriors need someone looking out for them.
Together, they’re the Autobots’ muscle and heart, and I wanted to capture that dynamic in LEGO form.
The Build Process
Designing them in BrickHeadz style meant leaning into their most recognizable features:
- Ironhide
I gave him a bold red body, with a big, blocky head design that hints at his rugged look. The bright blue eyes pop against the gray faceplate, and I added details to the torso that reflect his armored, battle-ready presence. His shape feels strong and sturdy, just like the Ironhide we all know.

- Ratchet
For Ratchet, I swapped the red for white, with small touches of red to nod to his medic role. His head features a sharp black “V†shape on the forehead, giving him a distinct silhouette compared to Ironhide. The mix of blue and purple in the optics gives him a slightly different personality—less aggressive, more analytical. His chest also has subtle hints of detailing, almost like medical paneling and tools tucked away.

When they’re side by side, you can instantly feel the contrast: Ironhide looks like he’s ready to charge into battle, while Ratchet looks like he’s about to say, “Don’t break yourself again, or I’ll have more work to do.â€
Why This Build Matters to Me
These two are a reminder that not every hero has to be the leader or the most powerful. Ironhide and Ratchet show that loyalty, skill, and heart are just as important in the fight against the Decepticons.
Building them also gave me a chance to experiment with colors and shapes beyond the usual silver or gray of Megatron. The vibrant red and clean white stand out on my shelf, and together, they bring balance to the growing BrickHeadz Transformer lineup I’m putting together.

Final Thoughts
What I love most about these builds is how they feel like a pair. Ironhide and Ratchet have always been partners in their own way, whether it’s on the battlefield or in the repair bay, and now they sit together as BrickHeadz, carrying that same energy.
With Megatron already on the shelf and these two Autobots joining the fight, I’m starting to see a little LEGO Cybertron coming together piece by piece. And something tells me Optimus Prime himself is going to have to make an appearance soon…
